For one thing, sports club is way more costly than academic clubs. For example, to keep a skiing club running, the university needs to build a ski resort, which might cost millions of dollars. By contrast, academic clubs like math club don’t really need much to operate, only a meeting room for students to gather together and discuss is enough. Cutting off funding for sports club will definitely save a lot more money for the university. For another, academic performance is the key indicator of a university’s achievement.
