It not only takes time, but also money, as well as parents’ love and full attention. Whereas, some people argue that due to the great changes in our society, it’s much easier for parents to raise children than it was half a decade ago. Personally speaking, I do not agree with it. This point of view can be well-supported by following reasons and examples. First of all, parents are exposed to a much more stressful environment when it comes to children’s education. Compared to 50 years ago when parents just let children have fun with their friends in the playground after school or at weekends, parents today have to choose carefully which extracurricular activities their children should take part in. It is the general social trend that fuels parents’ desire for their children to stand out from the crowd. A nationwide statistic report conducted by the education department reveals that because of the pressure from other parents, nowadays over 80 percent of the parents in China tend to send their children to afterschool math, English, and other various kinds of classes. Additionally, various potential health risks also leave parents today in a constant alerted state than it was 50 years ago. The abundance of materials and the improvement of living standard also lead to some problems, such as the fake imported products or even substandard vaccines. In order to make sure that their children grow up safely, parents need to remain vigilant all the time and spend more money on buying products with good quality. The reports of poisoned milk powder and fake vaccine has shocked most parents in China. My sister, who has a two-year old boy, told me that she might consider to take her kid to vaccinate in Hong Kong. It cannot be denied that raising children half a decade ago was also hard due to the scarcity of materials. Parents had to sew clothes for their children, and gave meat to their children rather than ate it themselves. However, the pressure at that time is relatively lower, what parents need to do is only earning as much money as possible.
