Firstly, learning music and art can improve children’s imagination, which is a key factor for further study. The right brain of people controls imagination, creativity and inspiration, while the left brain dominates logic and reason. Both of them are of great importance and can affect each other. For students in the primary school, they are still at a critical stage of brain development. Their potential of right brain can be tapped by appreciating music and art, which in turn can lead to the development of left brain. In other words, children’s ability of logic and reason, the foundation of learning technology, is improved. What’s more, imagination, which is the source of creativity, plays an essential role in the development of technology and the whole society. Secondly, taking music and art lessons can cultivate kids’ physical coordination ability. When a child starts to play an instrument, he or she has to recognize the notes and other signs on the pages first, and then immediately moves his or her hands to play the tune. The ability of eye-hand coordination is enhanced through this process, which can be achieved by spending more time in learning music. This kind of capability allows children to do a better job in hands-on activities and experiments, and thus provides the basis for pursuing further study in other fields. Admittedly, I’m not saying that learning technology is of no use in children’s development. If primary students spend more time in learning technology, such as taking computer lessons, it may help students know more about the latest trend worldwide. However, what learning music and art could bring is more fundamental and useful for students at this age. The ability of imagination and coordination can lay a solid foundation for their future development. From what I have discussed above, primary students should spend more time in learning music and art.
