People nowadays are busier than ever in work and school. They want to spend more time to learn new things. Which one will you choose to learn?
1. Learn a new sport that you have never played before.
2. Learn to cook food different from what you have learned before.
3. Learn to make something by hand, like clothing or jewelry.
At present, in the wake of intense competition in workplace and school, people are exposed to a great deal of pressure and are more occupied than before. In order to relax, they tend to spend more time to learn new things. Some people prefer to learn to cook a new dish or to craft, while I’d like to try a new athletic challenge. My viewpoint is based on the following reasons and examples.
The first benefit that learning a new sport can bring is that during the learning process, people enjoy a greater chance to meet new friends. Unlike participating in sports you have already mastered, learning a new one requires blending in a different circle of people, which offers a good opportunity for us to make new friends and experience a different lifestyle. For instance, my friend David used to play football very often, but recently he spent his spare time learning to dive. As a beginner, he struggled to overcome water pressure. While through several practices with other experienced people, he finally mastered the skill and they became friends later. What’s more, he had a taste of the world of diving.
In addition, trying a new sport is conducive to people’s different part of bodies and different kind of abilities. Doing sports can be beneficial to people’s physical condition and various types of exercise have their own unique purpose. For instance, playing basketball could improve people’s hand-eye response ability and help build up arm muscles. What’s more, the University of Nottingham conducted a research that jumping exercise, such as rope skipping and shuttlecock kicking, could have an effect on preventing rarefaction of bone. Therefore, people engaging in a new sport could achieve positive results in improvement of fitness and ability.
Indeed, learning to cook a new dish and make things by hand could also offer pleasure and benefits as well. It is quite rewarding to receive other’s compliment when presenting the dish or craft you made. However, cooking and crafting cannot benefit the body and mind simultaneously like sports do.
To put in a nutshell, among these three options, I would choose to learn a new sport, for this is beneficial to both socializing and physical condition.
