## 真题题目
Which one is the most important factor to help you work productively?
1. Having an environment which is free of noise and distractions.
2. Knowing that you will receive a reward.
3. Doing something you are interested in.
## 示范答案
In this ever changing and fast growing society with ever more fierce competition, people begin to care about how to improve their productivity in fear of being left behind. Public opinions on the issue are divergent, as some hold that an environment free of noise and distraction contributes most to productivity, while some claim that a reward would definitely incentivize innovation and enhance morale. However, from my point of view, doing something you love from the bottom of your heart without adopting a utilitarian view is the most significant factor to motivate oneself, for that the pure love for a cause and the unswerving dedication to a career could boost innovation and ensure execution.
First and foremost, interest encourages one to dig deeper into the topic and come up with creative solutions. Once people get the hang of the ABCs of something and start to form a sense of achievement, they would be encouraged to do more research on the topic until they eventually become a guru, a go-to person in this field. In Psychology, this specific experience is called flow, which refers to the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting loss in one's sense of space and time. When someone is truly interested in something, chances are that he would have this flow experience more frequently, which is closely associated with high productivity and creativity. This theory is particularly true in the field of science research. The public are no stranger to the name of Yan Ning, a structural biologist and a professor of molecular biology. She almost spends every minute in the laboratory doing experiments. It is her dedication to the research in structure and mechanism of membrane transport proteins that makes her the youngest professor and Ph.D. tutor in Tsinghua University. She told the journalist in a report that she simply enjoyed the feeling of solving the structure proteins that were once a mystery to human beings. But for her interest in science, she would not have made such fruitful achievements.
Dedication and innovation are by no means the only benefits brought by interest. Execution is also an important component of productivity. When one is excited about an idea, he would have the impulse to carry it out right away. In other words, a person who is self-motivated by interest is far less likely to be a procrastinator and more likely to be successful in work. This statement is supported by a statistical evidence, which indicates that those who choose their own major in colleges tend to be more successful in job market, with a salary 30% percent higher than those who are assigned a major that they don’t necessarily have interest in. Further research also reveals that the most successful people have one thing in common: they are doing the things they love instead of seeking for fame or fortune.
Indeed, a quiet working environment could also help people concentrate and a reward would motivate them in a short term. But what make people stand out ultimately is their love for a lifelong cause. In Simon Sinek’s amazing TED talk, he talks about how great leaders inspire action, starting with a golden circle and a question “why”. It is the answer to the question “why I am doing this” that serves as the inner motivation for any action. Likewise, interest is that answer to some extent; it is a natural instinct and also a cultivated and acquired ability.
An old saying goes: “Interest is the best teacher.” It may sounds like cliché but it still rings true nowadays. It is a fortune to discover your lifetime passion, which is just like the North Star that leads you towards the destination you set up when you set off. Find it, stick to it, have a lot of fun doing the things you love, and let the outcome carry itself out.
